We don't have any industry-sponsored IACUC protocols at this time. If it were in the context of an external grant, we already have a high overhead rate for them so I doubt we would charge more. If this is more of a question of industry using our Animal Care Facility to do work and pay use fees - our Use Fee Committee is in the process of developing a policy allowing higher use fees for external users of our shared facilities, so we would potentially charge them higher use fees.
Regarding adapting to a potential world of sharply reduced F&A rates, yes, we would be looking across grants and contracts to reconsider what we direct charge. While it is still very early days and we don't yet know how this might be limited, I would expect that we would be considering direct charging for many services, including regulatory committee and staff support of many kinds of research integrity activities. In the APLU CoR PEER and research fellow conversations (Rob C and Rob R are in some of these) it appears that we're probably starting to consider this.

Given the potential decline in direct costs, we are exploring the possibility of implementing fees to review industry-sponsored IACUC protocols. Before we start this initiative, we would like to conduct benchmarking. To that end, we would appreciate your insights regarding your institution's policies on this matter. Specifically, does your institution currently impose fees for the review of industry-sponsored IACUC protocols? Additionally, would your institution consider implementing such fees in the future?
Thanks!
