Virtual Roundtable: Culture of Care

When:  Feb 5, 2026 from 02:00 PM to 03:00 PM (ET)

In this roundtable, an IACUC Coordinator from a contract research organization will lead a discussion about how to improve institutional focus on Culture of Care. Many institutions have been consistently working towards creating a Culture of Care within the animal program, as part of our shared, overarching responsibility to ethically use animals in research, teaching, and experimentation. However, a true Culture of Care relies on not only appropriate resources, such as personnel, facilities, finances, and time, but also an institutional ethos dedicated to supporting change and progress. This interactive session will explore ideas for building Cultures of Care when both tangible resources and institutional willingness are scarce. The roundtable will begin with a brief overview of some of the challenges that the presenter faced upon joining her current animal program, the areas of focus for her institution’s Culture of Care, and the change management and leadership strategies that she and other members of the animal program have successfully implemented thus far. The remainder of the session will include a short guided discussion as well as opportunities for open dialogue to allow for attendees to share their own hurdles, ideas, and successes
